Ausgangspunkt für diese Serie von Arbeiten waren die Proteste, die Ende Juni aufgrund von Polizeigewalt in Frankreich aufkochten. Dabei wurde der 17-jährige Nahel Merzouk von einem Polizisten bei einer Kontrolle erschossen. Die darauf folgenden Proteste erinnern an die Unruhen während der Black-Lives-Matter-Bewegung in den USA. Nahel hatte algerisch-marokkanische Wurzeln, er gehörte also einer Gruppe an, welche im Zusammenhang mit einer langen Kolonialgeschichte Diskriminierung in Frankreich erleben. Beim Mord von Nahel wird von einem rassistischen Motiv seitens der Polizei ausgegangen.

The starting point for this series of works was the protests that erupted at the end of June due to police violence in France. During these protests, 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk was shot by a police officer during a check. The subsequent protests are reminiscent of the unrest during the Black Lives Matter movement in the United States. Nahel had Algerian-Moroccan roots, so he belonged to a group that, in connection to a long colonial history, experiences discrimination in France. Nahel‘s murder is believed to have had a racist motive on the part of the police.

This project is part of a conceptual project I did during my artist residency in Paris.
